Career progression following work experience

tiQtoQ offers work experience, not just to students but also to aspiring IT professionals. It's important to us to nurture talent and support career progression wherever possible. One of those aspiring IT professionals was Dan Baird (read about his work experience here). He impressed us so much, he's now joined the team on a permanent basis. We asked him to write about his first few weeks with the company:

My First Few Weeks at tiQtoQ:

I was overjoyed when I received an offer to join tiQtoQ after my week-long work experience with the company. The news filled me with excitement about the potential opportunities and rewarding experiences that lay ahead. Even though I have only been with tiQtoQ for a few weeks, I already feel that the knowledge I have gained here, as well as the working culture, far surpass my previous job experiences.

Week One:

I spent my first week at tiQtoQ getting to know the team and familiar faces from my initial work experience. Meeting my line manager and various members from different sections of the company was part of the onboarding process. This felt friendly, supportive, and made me feel welcome. My initial task was to analyse and scrutinise the website of the company associated with our project, noting any errors or issues. This task helped me understand the level of meticulousness required in our work and what to look for in future investigations. It was a wonderful way to ease into my new role without feeling overwhelmed by information.

Week Two:

In my second week, I was introduced to the project team and the agile methodology, including how Scrum teams operate. I spent time researching these concepts to prepare for the project's upcoming phases.I had numerous questions about these topics and testing in general, and my line manager was more than happy to provide answers. This open communication made me feel comfortable and confident in my pursuit of knowledge within this field and at tiQtoQ.

Week Three:

During my third week, I delved into the diverse types of testing, common testing tools, and key acronyms frequently used in the field. I also spent time reading the ISTQB syllabus to gain more detailed knowledge and prepare for the certification course.Learning about the varied nature of this field and the intriguing aspects of testing processes was illuminating. By the end of the week, I had learned how to write test cases, raise defects, and use the necessary tools for the project. This foundational knowledge was crucial for the effective execution of tests as the project progressed.

Conclusion:

To sum up, my first few weeks at tiQtoQ have been smooth, engaging, and enjoyable. The experience has been eye-opening, providing me with a broad yet digestible range of knowledge about testing. This journey has whetted my appetite for further learning and future experiences at tiQtoQ.I look forward to continuing my growth and contributing to the team, confident that the supportive and enriching environment at tiQtoQ will keep offering valuable insights and rewarding experiences.
